Welcome to the Memorial Pipe Band Dookinella Website   

This website celebrates the music and community of the Memorial Pipe Band Dookinella, formed in 1948 and continuing to this day Achill Island’s proud association with the musical tradition of the bagpipes.

The band plays at various local (and not so local) festivals, fleadh, cultural and musical events, with the centre-piece being the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in Achill. In this parade we form part of a renowned massed bands tribute which is some five bands strong, including the other four Achill pipe bands from the villages of  Dooagh, Keel, Pollagh and Tonragee. This year’s highlight for our band is sure to be our forthcoming trip to Cleveland, Ohio. 

Proud of our village roots and traditions but also looking to the future the band values the camaraderie of its members, the importance of traditional Irish music in our culture, the renewal of the band through young members  and  the loyal support and friendship of the local community.
